Primator Maibock

If you were watching the videos I shot from Prague, then my appreciation for the Czech brewery Primator will be no surprise to you. They're a great Czech microbrewery (malypivovar) that is very American in the sense of making a wide variety of different styles.
So when I found out that two Primator beers that I didn't see in Prague are not only imported to the US, but newly available in the area, I jumped at the chance. This is their 7.5% ABV maibock, and in a few days I'll post a review of their Double Bock.

Beer Review, Abita Bock

Unknown ABV
Appearance: Light brownish-orange body, very thick off-white head that dissipates quickly. Very transparent, with some effervescence from the bottom of the glass. 4.0/5
Smell: Sweet, very malty, slightly bready. Slight hints of cherries. Overall just a dry maltiness, not bad for style. 4.0/5
Taste: Very... bock-like. Malty and sweet up-front, with a dry finish and aftertaste. Slightly nutty. Decent, but not a lot of complexity. 3.0/5
Mouthfeel: Fairly thin, low carbonation, no real hops. 2.5/5
Drinkability: A nice beer for relaxing, but nothing that sets the world on fire. 3.0/5

Beer Review, Stoudt's Blonde Double Maibock
Stoudt's Double Blonde Maibock
Adamstown, PA
7.0% ABV
Appearance: They're not kidding when they call this a "blonde" Maibock. Looks more like a witbier or a pilsner than a maibock, very clear yellow-white body with a thick white head. No effervescence present. 4.0/5
Smell: Aroma is more like a Maibock, though. Very malty, dry, strong notes of caramel malt and a touch of sweetness way down deep. Slightly hoppy. Very interesting, inviting. 4.5/5
Taste: Again with the caramel malts balanced with sharp hoppiness. Sweet and malty in the middle, very dry on the finish. Tastes like a very well-balanced and well-exectued maibock. 4.0/5
Mouthfeel: Thin, slightly carbonated, very hoppy. Smooth, clean. 3.5/5
Drinkability: It's a bit too cloying to be on the same level as Sam Adams Boston Lager or Rogue Dead Guy, but overall this is a decent Maibock, well worth the cost. I'll be buying it again. 3.5/5
