An Amusing Video

Sorry I haven't been a very good blogger lately. Life has been kind of insane, as I'm about to move to Kalamazoo, MI (a city and state I've never been to) and life is pretty much composed of working and packing right about now.

Anyway, here's a funny video of Kevin Smith completely owning a fan at ComiCon.

(Am I really the only one that kinda liked Jersey Girl?)

Beer Review, Samuel Adams Double Bock

Samuel Adams Double Bock

Appearance: Dark brown, clear, slight clean head. Bubbles rise slowly from the bottom of the glass. Quite nice, enticing. 4.5/5

Smell: Highly malty, chocolaty, sweet, strong roasted notes. Almonds, perhaps? Very nutty, invigorating. 4.5/5

Taste: Heavily malted, low carbonation, very sweet, very nutty. Notes of coffee and chocolate abound. Finishes somewhat astringent due to the alcohol, and can be a bit cloying when it warms. 4.0/5

Mouthfeel: Moderate-to-thick. Not quite as thick as a decent RIS, but for a dopplebock it's quite thick. Coats the tongue well, and carbonation is very mild. 4.5/5

Drinkability: Quite enjoyable, although a bit cloying, and worth buying more regularly. 4.0/5

Overall: 4.25/5

Beer Review, Younger's Special Bitter

Rouge Ales Younger's Special Bitter

Appearance: Pours from the 22oz bomber into my pint glass with a dark golden amber coloration, clear, some effervescence, and a thick foamy white head that leaves tons of lacing. Excellent presentation, nearly perfect for style. 4.5/5

Smell: Strong hop presence, "mushy" as opposed to crisp. Strong notes of apples buried underneath, something like an apple cider? Overall aroma is sweet, malty, slightly cloying. 4.0/5

Taste: Strongly hoppy upfront, sweet in the middle, with a dry backend. Slight notes of citrus. Overall uncomplex but enjoyable. 4.0/5

Mouthfeel: Thin, but the hops give the tongue a bit of a workout. 3.5/5

Drinkability: This is a good-quality example of an English Bitter, not necessarily a great style, but a really decent beer for daily drinking. The price tag makes it a bit steep, though. 3.5/5

Overall: 4.0/5

Beer Review, He'Brew Genesis 10:10

Schmaltz Brewing Company He'Brew Genesis 10:10

Limited Release, brewed in 2006, no longer brewed

Appearance: Orange, almost brown body with a large-bubbled head that is only slightly off white. Head sticks around, leaves some lacing. 4.0/5

Smell: Very fruity, apples, oranges, lots of citrus. Makes me think of a weak orange juice. A bit of tart from the yeast, perhaps? Yes, definitely yeasty, a touch of hops. Invigorating, interesting, makes me want to know more... 4.5/5

Taste: The fruitiness is pronounced in the taste as well as the nose, but the oranges take a back seat to the apples. A touch of bite from the hops, a nicely warming sensation from the alcohol, and an overall sweet apply fruitiness that I like quite a bit, almost despite myself. Finishes dry but clean, leaves the palate wanting more. 4.5/5

Mouthfeel: Moderate thickness on the beer, chewy (presumably) due to suspended yeast in the bottle. Nice for style, enjoyable. 4.0/5

Drinkability: I am usually not at all a fan of fruit/vegetable beers, but this one is pretty stand out. I'd think of it more of a slightly citrusy IPA or DIPA as opposed to a regular fruit beer. Highly enjoyable, worth the trouble to seek out, although since it's not brewed anymore I guess I'll just have to content myself with this one bottle. 4.5/5

Overall: 4.35/5
